Special Educational needs info
At Beckers Green Primary School we believe that all children have the right to an education which allows them, as an individual, to flourish and thrive. Our school policies outline the commitment of the staff and governors or Beckers Green to ensure that quality of opportunity is available to all members of the school community.
In our school, this means not simply treating everybody the same, but understanding and tackling the different barriers, which could lead to unequal outcomes for the different groups of pupils in the school, together with celebrating and valuing the achievements and strengths of all members of the school community.
We believe that equality at our school should permeate all aspects of school life and is the responsibility of every member of the school and wider community. Everyone should feel safe, secure, valued and of equal worth. We endeavour to ensure that all should be be able to access everything the school has to offer regardless of individual needs.
A child has Special Educational Needs if they have a learning difficulty or disability which calls for special educational provision to be made for them. This support can be in any of the four broad areas of Special Educational Needs
- Communication and Interaction
- Cognition and Learning
- Social, emotional and mental difficulties
- Sensory and/or physical needs
If you have concerns about your child then please speak to your class teacher or Mrs Carvalho who is the Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Co-ordinator (SENDCO).
As part of the Children and Families Act 2013, Local Authorities are required to publish a 'Local Offer' which sets out support that is available for children and young people with SEND in the local area. Essex' Local Offer is available at www.essexlocaloffer.org and tells parents how to access services in the area and what to expect from these services.
Alongside this please see our SEN Policy and SEN Information Report which are published below.
Admission information
For children with an Educational Health Care Plan we will receive consultation paperwork from the local authority and will make a decision on whether we can meet specific need. If your child has SEND and they do not have an EHC plan we would advise you to phone the school and book a tour. You will then have the opportunity to talk to the headteacher and SENCO about your child's needs. Please see the Admissions Policy below.
