World Book Day

Giraffes had a brilliant day reading, writing and talking about books.

World Book Day is always one of my favourite days at school and this year was no exception. The children looked fabulous in their outfits and we had some fantastic adjectives.

Our day began by taking part in a National Literacy Trust online football and book quiz. I was grateful for the children's great football knowledge to answer some of the questions! We then spent some time discussing our adjectives and the children wrote definitions and wrote sentences containing their adjectives.

After the break, the children shared the books they had brought from home, explaining why they had chosen to bring them in. The children then wrote a book review of their chosen book. There were a great variety of different books that were special to the children.

During the afternoon, the children took part in a creative writing challenge, and we had a relaxing time whilst I read some of the children's books to the class. Our day ended with an assembly where we got to see everyone's costumes and the winners from each class were announced. Maddison had been chosen from Giraffes, but it was a very difficult decision to make!

It was a brilliant day and I hope the children enjoyed it as much as I did. We will share our World Book Day class book with you at parents' evening.
