Art Day

Giraffes spent the day creating artwork inspired by American artist Alma Thomas.
We began the day by learning a little about the life of Alma Thomas, who was an American artist. She painted abstract paintings using small marks often using a circular design.
The children spent some time looking at her artworks and giving their opinions about them. We all agreed we liked the bold colours that she had chosen to paint with.
Next, we experimented making marks and circles in the style of Alma Thomas and looked at which colours complemented each other.
The children then worked on sketches for their final design and coloured these using colours they were going to paint with in their final piece. The children were able to explain why they had chosen the shapes and colours they wanted to use.
After lunch, the children set to work creating their final artwork. We had a calm classroom, with music playing to help them focus and be creative. The children have all worked incredibly hard today and their final artwork was brilliant.
I definitely think we have some budding artists in the Giraffes class!
