Week 4 - what a busy week!
We've had such a busy week in the Elephants class, and finishing the week off with our design part of our art cycle.
In English this week, we have been focussing on our grammar lessons prior to writing out stories next week. We ventured out into a rather wet copse on Tuesday to explore our senses, and on Wednesday we looked at story structures using traditional tales:
Yesterday we looked at compound sentences, using text builders - red for simple sentences, and used a coordinating conjunction - and, but, so in blue, to join the two clauses together:
In maths, we have moved on in our multiplication lessons, building arrays:
In science, we answered the big question - what can pushes and pulls do to a solid object? We learnt about William Harbutt who invented plasticine, and we used some to experiment with twisting, bending, stretching and pulling.
In art this week, we began looking at what a portrait is, and the artist Sir George Hayter who was commissioned to draw a portrait of Queen Victoria during the coronation, we created mood boards to inspire our final art work:
We moved on to experimenting with water colours:
This afternoon, we used view finders to focus our designing skills on certain body parts of portraits of Queen Victoria:
