All About Me
We are the Antelopes!
Read on to find out about the new herd that have joined Beckers Green!
We started our first term at school with the topic 'All About Me'.
We painted portraits of ourselves and practised tracing over and starting to write our names......
We used a variety of different materials to make faces including playdough and natural materials.........
.......and we used Sticklebricks to make features for colourful plate faces........
We started to get more familiar with our classroom and our school, learning our way around and getting used to routines. We went on a tour of the school and met some of the people who work there.
We played schools at our small world area where we put chairs and tables into the classroom - red, yellow, green and blue - just like in our real classroom! There was even a carpet area with coloured spots. We put our own mini me block into the classroom then added in the mini me's of our new friends we have made in Antelopes class.
We also made our own tables and chairs from wooden blocks and Sticklebricks.
Don't we look smart in our new school uniform.....
.......and in these pictures that we created using our cutting and sticking skills!
We looked at our school logo and made our own Beckers Bee using playdough and collage materials.
Here we are exchanging friendship bracelets with our new friends.
Next we moved onto finding out about families. We drew the people that live in our houses with us and made a 'family portrait' using play people to show the members of our families.
We also made people using natural materials and Sticky shapes.
We drew a picture on the front of a card to send home to our families. Inside our cards we traced or wrote our names and used our knowledge of phonics to choose the word cards we needed.
We made marvellous models of houses using all sorts of different construction materials and did some amazing artwork too.
We drew, painted and collaged patchwork houses and chose different shapes of coloured paper to make a colourful backdrop for our small world area.
One of the stories we looked at was 'A Squash and a Squeeze' where an old lady complains that her house is too small. She follows the advice of an old man who tells her to bring her goat, hen, pig and cow into her house. It is then so cramped that when the old man tells her to take them out again, her house suddenly seems so much bigger! We had fun retelling the story at the small world area.
It definitely was a squash and a squeeze in the wooden house when we had put all the animals inside!
We practised our counting skills using houses by putting on the correct number of windows to match the numbers on the doors.
We have loved playing in our outside area........
...........and exploring our copse area in outdoor learning sessions!
What a super start to the school year in the Antelopes class!
