EXTREME EARTH

Throughout this term, the Kangaroo class has been focusing on the topic of 'Extreme Earth'. This has predominately been a geography topic where we have been looking at the 4 key areas: mountains, biomes, volcanoes and earthquakes. We have looked at: the different ways mountains are formed; why we have different biomes and where they can be found on the planet; how volcanoes are formed and the impact they have on humans; and why earthquakes occur and the devastating impact they can have on the lives of humans. All the children also got to experience different volcanoes through a VR experience in school.

Our writing has also been inspired by the topic of 'Extreme Earth'. So far we have written: a narrative where we used the clip of 'Ruin' as a stimulus, and we wrote as if the main character was living in a barren wasteland due to an extreme earth event; a newspaper report reporting 20 years on from the devastating Indian Ocean Tsunami; and, finally, we will be writing a non-chronological report showcasing all of our learning from this term. A slightly different written outcome for this term was inspired by our class book, which is 'The Nowhere Emporium', where we had to write a job application for the role of apprentice in the emporium.

We have just started to move onto our art project, which is looking at the artist Alberto Giacometti, where will be creating a sculpture using modroc which is inspired by his original artwork. I will post some pictures of the finished sculptures in the coming weeks.
