art Day

Today, Giraffes sculpted clay pots inspired by the Beaker People of the Bronze Age.

As we come to the end of our topic, Creeping through Caves, our art day was inspired by the clay pots made by the Beaker People during the Bronze Age. We looked at the shape of the pots and the intricate patterns that these people decorated them with.

After creating a mood board to inspire their own work, the children spent some time experimenting with the clay, forming it into coils and using different tools to create patterns. The next part of the process was to create some designs that they would try to recreate when they made their own pots.

During the afternoon, the children used the skills gained from the morning session to create their own clay pot. They worked carefully and were all able to sculpt a pot the Beaker People would have been pleased with! It was a great day, with excellent behaviour and the children supporting each other with parts they found difficult.

Next week we will be having a DT day when the children will create a pop-up Christmas card.
