Erupting Experiments!
What a super start to our Marvellous Medicine topic!
Our topic for this half term is based on George's Marvellous Medicine by Roald Dahl. The children received a letter from George this morning and had to decide what to do with Diet Coke and Mentos. Most of the class had done or at least heard of this experiment before so were very good at predicting what would happen. Look at the children's reactions! We were a little disappointed that the Coke didn't go a little higher, so we're going to repeat it tomorrow with Coke Zero as this may have a better reaction!
The children listened to the first chapter of George's Marvellous Medicine where they were introduced to Grandma. They decided she was a truly horrid, selfish, bossy and evil lady! We will be developing this aspect of writing over the next few weeks where the children will be writing character descriptions.
Over the next two weeks, we will be doing lots of science where we are focusing on scientific skills such as asking questions, making predictions and setting up fair tests. We started this block of science off this afternoon with an experiment involving baking soda and vinegar. We changed how much vinegar we added each time to see if there was a difference. We concluded that the more vinegar added, the greater the reaction and 'eruption'!
In Maths, we will be revising addition over the next few weeks. Today we focused on fact families as it's really important that the children can recall addition facts to 10 and 20.
I'm very excited for the upcoming term and it's lovely to see how enthusiastic the children are about this topic.
